Locker Room Monitoring Policy & Tracking

Mn Hockey requires us to have locker room monitoring plans in place for all of our travel team levels (Squirt/10U and up). LFYH strictly enforces this policy with all of its teams.

As a Team Manager, you are responsible for documenting the locker room monitoring plan that your team will follow for the season. In addition, there needs to be tracking in place regarding locker room responsibility for each event that your players are using a locker room space for. In addition, co-ed teams will need to have a plan for each gender.

Individual Team Coverage Options:

Parent Locker Room Monitor volunteers - with this scenario, 2-3 parent volunteers will complete required certification training to be eligible to be a locker room monitor (LRM). The Team Manager will work with the LRMs on a schedule for coverage. This schedule needs to be documented and available to the LFYH Board both from a compliance standpoint but also from a DIBS volunteer hour award process (LRMs will earn .5 hr credit toward volunteer hours for each event as LRM). Typically a google sheet is the easiest way to track this.

Coach Coverage- some teams prefer to have coaches cover the LRM responsibilities. This is fine as long as the coaches can ensure continuity of coverage. Policy states that LRM must be present IN the locker room. Coaches often leave locker rooms to organize practices or talk with other coaches on game strategy. If your coaches will be taking on the LRM responsibility, they need to ensure 100% compliance and coverage.

Combined Coach and Parent Coverage - this option combines both of the above options. Typically we see this happening where coaches will cover practices and they want a LRM for game days so they can plan freely out of earshot of the players. Sometimes it might be morning practices are coach covered and everything else is done by LRM. The same scheduling visibility requirements apply as noted in the parent locker room monitor option above.

LRMs should be capped at 2-3 per team unless you have a co-ed team, you may then need up to 2 additional LRMs. Requirements / process to become a locker room monitor can be found at
