Coaching Information

Interested in coaching with LFYH? Below you will find the steps you will need to follow to be eligible to coach.

Phase One - Coaching Interest Form

The first step in becoming a coach for the upcoming season, is to complete the coaching interest form linked below to express your interest in coaching. From there, the LFYH Coaching Coordinator, along with the PDC, will identify coaches for the following season. These coaches will be presented to the Board and voted on during a meeting prior to the season beginning.

Please note, submitting a coaching interest form does not guarantee that you will be selected to coach for the season. You will be notified of selection and can then begin phase two.

Phase Two - Coaching Registration

Once the LFYH Board has approved the selected coaches for the season, coaches will be notified of the date and time for a coaches meeting. This meeting is mandatory for all coaches to attend.

During that meeting registration requirements, coaching contracts, focuses for the season and other information will be communicated.

You will need to complete the following items BEFORE you are eligible to participate in any team activities through LFYH. (These are MN Hockey and USA Hockey requirements to coach)

  • Register with USA Hockey as a coach - Click here for USA Hockey site
  • Submit your LFYH Coaching Registration (link supplied soon)
  • Complete background screening if you were not screened last year (check with Heather Brill if you are not sure) - Click here for background check site
  • Complete SafeSport Training - Click here for SafeSport Training
  • Complete USA Hockey age module(s) for level(s) of play you are coaching. (Modules only need to be completed once per age level) - Click here to register for age modules
  • Complete concussion training course once every two years. If you completed an age module this year, that will count for your concussion training, if you did not, you will need to ensure you are current on concussion training and may need to take training through another method such as the CDC.

Phase Three - Additional Training

In addition to the Phase Two requirements to take the ice, you must complete a USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) clinic. Coaches have until December 15th to complete their clinic. If the clinic has not been completed by that time, you will not be able to be rostered ahead of the 12/31 roster freeze date. Any coach unable to be rostered will no longer be able to participate in team activities and will no longer be eligible for any compensation they would have received as a coach for the LFYH. - Click here for the USA Hockey Coaching Clinics
